A New Summer, a New Experiment!

Welcome back! I made it through another long Indiana winter, by the power and faithfulness of God!

I got to enjoy family time in Memphis for six weeks, and then did my best to make the Salt Life Cottage warm and cozy during hibernation. I did get pneumonia in January but managed not to land in hospital; my friends helped me fight that good fight for ten days and we conquered it. Speaking of fights, Medicaid battles have been brutal lately, but I am doing all I can and learning (over and over) to trust the Lord to provide.

Spring was slow in coming, and summer has been even slower. We've had a handful of beautiful, warm, sunny days so far, but even today is cool and overcast with a forecast of rain. But it feels to me like preparation for my newest experiment...

Guys, THIS SUNDAY I am leavin' on a jet plane bound for England! It's my first overseas trip and the longest flight I've ever taken. It will be an experiment in airplane travel, accessible tourism, public transportation navigation, and much more. I've made lists, plans, reservations, and contingencies, but I'm also bracing myself for unforeseen misadventures and praying for grace to accept them as God's plans for a better story.

My epic travel buddies are my dad and my friend Anna Hege (this will be our second major trip together). We'll fly into London, then take a train to Scarborough, where my in-progress novel is set. We'll stay there four nights, and then take the train back to London, where we will stay three more nights before heading home. I am hoping to blog about the details of our adventures while we're there and in the days after we return, so bookmark my blog and check it often if you want to follow along!

Also, I am so excited to announce that I am now a weekly columnist for BioNews, on the SMA News Today site! My column is called "Caring Together," and focuses on my relationships with my caregivers and community. It comes out every Tuesday morning, so I hope you will check that out too and share it around!
